All charges dropped against Bills DT Ed Oliver in Houston

All charges against Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver were dropped in Houston.

The 2020 offseason has been particularly uneasy for Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver.

Like all of us, Oliver is dealing with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. On top of that, Oliver made a personal mistake.

During the early morning hours of May 16, Oliver was arrested for driving while intoxicated and unlawful possession of a weapon. But according to a report on Wednesday via FOX 26 in Houston, all charges have been dropped against the 22-year-old.

According to police reports at the time of the arrest, another driver called 911 to report someone in a white pickup truck, who was swerving between lanes in a construction zone. When the police caught up, they found Oliver with an open beer between his legs. Oliver conducted a field sobriety test before being arrested. After a search of his vehicle, Montgomery County Police also discovered an unregistered pistol in the vehicle.

The Wednesday report cites the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, stating a “lack of evidence” as the reasoning for the dismissal. Blood results reportedly came back negative. In addition, the firearm charge was also dropped because it’s no longer illegal for Oliver to face that charge unless he’s charged with “another criminal act” or if he was “intoxicated.”

Bills veterans are slated to begin training camp on Tuesday. Oliver, the Bills’ first-round pick in 2019, figures to be an important part of their defensive line in 2020.
