There are many positives to signing to play football for the University of Alabama.. a world class education, playing football for a national champion contender, and playing in front of 100,000+ people every Saturday against the best competition that the FBS can offer. But the biggest perk of playing for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide? Job security.
This year’s NFL Draft proved that yet again, as eight of the SEC’s 29 draft picks in 2021 came from Alabama. However, Alabama’s performance in the draft has a brighter light on it, when compared to one of college football’s best draft classes of all time.
In a post from The Tuscaloosa News, The Cleveland Brown’s selection of Thomas Fletcher in round six of the NFL Draft gives Alabama 38 draft picks from the 2017 roster, which ties the illustrious 2001 Miami class, that featured such NFL talent as Kellen Winslow, Ed Reed, Sean Taylor, and Clinton Portis, which also had 38 members taken.
Coming into the draft, Alabama had 32 members of the 2017 team already selected. That team defeated Georgia in the College Football Playoff National Championship game in Atlanta.
