The Alabama softball team received a huge addition to its roster for next season on Friday. Texas A&M transfer Riley Valentine announced that she was transferring to Alabama.
Valentine, an Arizona native, spent one season with the Aggies. She played in 40 games while making 20 starts. As a freshman, she amassed a .188 batting average while hitting six home runs and driving in 20 runs.
Despite having a low batting average, Valentine did have a .325 on-base percentage.
With catcher Ally Shipman graduating, Valentine could compete for the starting job behind the plate. The majority of her starts as a freshman came at catcher.
Over the course of the offseason, the Alabama coaching staff has landed two other transfers. Central Arkansas transfer pitcher Kayla Beaver and LSU transfer pitcher Alea Johnson.
