Alabama shortsop Jim Jarvis named a finalist for prestigous award

Alabama shortstop Jim Jarvis has been a key piece on defense for the Crimson Tide in each of the last four seasons and is a finalist to receive Rawlings’ Gold Glove Award.

Alabama shortstop Jim Jarvis has been named as a finalist to receive the Rawlings’ Gold Glove Award. The other two finalists are Arizona’s Nik McClaughry and Kentucky’s Grant Smith.

This particular award recognizes the best defensive shortstop in the country. Jarvis has been a solid middle infielder for the Crimson Tide over the last three seasons. The California native has been solid defensively. That is what stands out the most about Jarvis’ game.

In 2023, Jarvis had a fielding percentage of .974. In the 156 attempts that Jarvis had, he had just seven errors. That is a tall ask but Jarvis makes things look effortless on the diamond.

All signs point toward Jarvis heading to the MLB. After spending four seasons in Tuscaloosa, Jarvis will have the choice to return and use his COVID year or pursue professional opportunities. It will be interesting to see what Jarvis decides to do.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama baseball program.
