Analysis: The 2019 season was supposed to be LaBryan Ray’s coming out party. After losing Quinnen Williams and Isaiah Buggs to the NFL, Ray was expected to team up with Raekwon Davis to give the Crimson Tide two veterans along its defensive line.

Unfortunately, a lower leg injured against South Carolina in Week 3 prevented that from happening, but 2020 could be a “run it back” situation for the former five-star defensive lineman.

Ray brings a complete skillset that includes length (6-foot-5), strength and athleticism which helps him be an impact player against the run and getting after the quarterback. The hope is that both he and Christian Barmore can provide Alabama with a much-needed interior pass rush.

If that duo can have any consistent success, it will go a long way in taking some of the pressure off of a young group of edge players who will be trying to gain experience early.
