As we continue through the offseason, Roll Tide Wire has decided to bring fans a quick snapshot of each scholarship player listed on Alabama’s 2020 football roster.
Each day, we’ll release two player profiles giving fans a glimpse into the players who will be available this upcoming season. Whether that’s size, classification, hometowns or recruiting rankings coming out of high school, we’ve got you covered.
Also included in each article is a quick recap letting you know what to expect from that player for the upcoming 2020 season and beyond.
Next up on the list is freshman running back Jase McClellan out of Aledo (Tex.).
Jase McClellan, Running Back
Height: 5-11 / Weight: 200
Class: Freshman
Hometown: Aledo (Tex.)
High School: Aledo High School
HS ranking (247Sports): 4-star / No. 46 overall / No. 6 RB / No. 6 TEX
HS ranking (Rivals): 4-star / No. 65 overall / No. 6 RB / No. 6 TEX
Analysis: People shouldn’t expect talented freshman running back Jase McClellan to assume a significant role in Year 1. With Najee Harris choosing to forgo the 2020 NFL Draft, the Crimson Tide is loaded at the position.
The depth chart behind Harris will more than likely include some combination of Trey Sanders, Brian Robinson Jr. and Keilan Robinson, which leaves the trio of first-year backs (McClellan, Roydell Williams and Kyle Edwards) limited opportunities.
Harris and Brian Robinson will both be seniors in 2020, however, so the opportunity for McClellan to work his way up the depth chart in 2021 is likely, as he was rated one of the top running backs in the country coming out of Aledo High School.
If playing time is to be had this upcoming season for McClellan, it’ll probably have to come on special teams.
