AFC East Week 14 recap and standings: Dolphins lead shrinks

What happened in the AFC East in Week 14?

Week 14 of the NFL regular season brought some of the craziest results of the year, as there were stunning upsets and photo finishes.

After 14 weeks, the AFC East still has just one team at the top of the division – the Miami Dolphins at 9-4.

Mike McDaniel’s team, coming off a victory over the Washington Commanders, has an extra day to prepare for their battle with the Tennessee Titans on Monday night. However, the Dolphins dealt with injuries and plenty of mistakes that led to them blowing a two-score lead with less than three minutes to go. They’ll have to focus on getting healthy and correcting some communication mistakes if they want to keep their lead in the division.

The Buffalo Bills jumped to 7-6 after downing the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Josh Allen didn’t look superhuman, but running back James Cook impressed with over 150 total yards and a score. Obviously, the thing that will be remembered most from the game was the penalty that wiped out an incredible Chiefs touchdown late. Instead, the Bills moved within two games of the Dolphins in the division.

Robert Saleh’s New York Jets had one of the most shocking games of the week, as they beat the Houston Texans 30-6 to improve to 5-8 on the year. Zach Wilson actually looked great again, throwing for over 300 yards and two scores with a 117.9 passer rating. On top of that, their defense suffocated Houston’s offense, which were without their top two receivers, starting tight end and quarterback for a portion of the game.

The New England Patriots earned just their third win of the season, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers 21-18 on Thursday night. Backup quarterback Bailey Zappe got the nod over Mac Jones for the second straight week, as he had the offense humming in the first half, leading to three touchdowns. The defense did well to hold Pittsburgh to just one second-half touchdown to keep the lead, as New England’s offensive output was minimal after the break.

Week 15 AFC East matchups:

  • Miami Dolphins (9-4) vs. New York Jets (5-8)
  • Buffalo Bills (7-6) vs. Dallas Cowboys (10-3)
  • New England Patriots (3-10) vs. Kansas City Chiefs (8-5)
