In a back-and-forth situation, safety Jamal Adams reportedly has dropped the big bomb.
According to Jets Wire, the All-Pro safety has requested the Jets trade him. Much of the problem here is over finances. Adams wants to be the highest-paid player at his position, but the Jets – who control Adams’ contract through at least the 2021 season – haven’t met his demands.
The Jets front office led by general manager Joe Douglas said he wanted to make Adams a “Jet for life,” but Adams wrote in an Instagram post last week the Jets hadn’t even given him a proposal for a new deal.
“I was called ‘selfish,” Adams wrote. “A lot of talk no action.”
Trade speculation around Adams actually started back in October when reports surfaced that Douglas fielded trade offers from multiple teams.
Following the reports that Adams wants to be traded, ESPN’s Adam Schefter added on seven teams that Adams would welcome a trade to. They all are among the best teams in the NFL, and on the list in the Cowboys, his hometown team.
The others include the Ravens, Texans, Chiefs, Eagles, 49ers and Seahawks.
On paper, the Jets are likely not the biggest obstacle in the Bills’ path to a 2020 AFC East crown. However, without Adams, the Jets’ defense certainly suffers a big, big loss.
