ACC-SEC Challenge replacing ACC-Big Ten Challenge in 2023

Time for a new challenge.

If you’re a fan of the annual ACC-Big Ten Challenge, make sure you enjoy every bit of it this year. That’s because beginning in 2023-24, the annual event will be replaced by the ACC-SEC Challenge. The event also is replacing the SEC-Big 12 Challenge.

Although the ACC-Big Ten Challenge has been around for 23 years, Notre Dame only has experienced since joining the ACC a decade ago. The men have a 4-5 all-time record in the event and can break even if they beat Michigan State on Wednesday. The women have fared much better at 7-1 and will face Maryland on Thursday.

It’s a shame to see an event college basketball fans have become used to for a generation go away, but at least the ACC has partnered with another power conference in which to do a yearly battle. Hopefully, this new challenge with the SEC lasts at least as long. Any interconference rivalry is exciting, and this will create new memories and opportunities for all schools involved.
