They were playing for no reason other than the rules and schedule said they had to, but it was an electric night at Truist Field in Charlotte for the North Carolina Tar Heels as they scored eight runs over the first two innings to set the pace for their 9-6 victory over NC State.
The Wolfpack had already clinched a spot in Saturday’s semi-finals after beating Pitt and clinching their pool Thursday night. NC State will play Georgia Tech at 5 p.m. ET Saturday evening for a spot in the championship.
Third baseman Mac Horvath led the way for North Carolina as he turned in six RBI in the victory, four of which came on a first-inning grand slam.
