Mississippi State eliminates No. 1 seed Tennessee from SEC Tournament

Mississippi State eliminates No. 1 seed Tennessee from the SEC Tournament.

No. 9 seed Mississippi State (21-12) defeated No. 1 seed Tennessee (24-8), 73-56, Friday in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Bulldogs led, 38-19, at halftime, a season-low for first-half points this season.

Friday’s win is Mississippi State’s second against the Vols this season. The Bulldogs defeated Tennessee, 77-72, on Jan. 10 in Starkville, Mississippi.

Mississippi State led by as many as 23 points. Tennessee trailed, 60-48, after Zakai Zeigler converted a three-point attempt with five minutes remaining in the game.

Zeigler scored 20 points to lead Tennessee. Dalton Knecht scored 14 points and converted 4-of-17 field goal attempts.

Jahmai Mashack scored 10 points for the Vols, while Jonas Aidoo totaled five points and 10 rebounds.

Cameron Matthews recorded 18 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals for the Bulldogs.

Week 18 AP Poll sees Alabama drop two spots to No. 16 in the country

After the loss to No. 4 Tennessee, Alabama falls two spots in the Week 18 AP Poll

There aren’t many ways to get around the fact that the Alabama Crimson Tide’s loss to Tennessee on Saturday was a stinger. Oats and the Alabama program had a chance to claim their third SEC regular season title in four years, but the Volunteers were able to find a way to come into Coleman Coliseum and escape with a win and likely their first outright SEC title since 2008.

While the loss hurts, it is not the end all be all for this Alabama team. With an SEC tournament looming in the near future and March Madness on the horizon, the Tide still have a chance to accomplish their two biggest goals they had heading into the season: an SEC Tournament Championship and a National Title. After all, we don’t play for regular-season titles in Tuscaloosa.

Despite picking up a key road win earlier in the week against Ole Miss, it wasn’t enough to prevent the Tide from dropping two spots in the Week 18 AP Poll to No. 16 in the country. However, the loss won’t be held too much against the Tide as ESPN’s Bracketology expert Joe Lunardi projects the Tide to still be a top four seed in March Madness.

[autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] has done a phenomenal job with Alabama in general, but especially in this 2023 season. The Tide lost 10 players as well as every assistant from last year’s team, and were still competing for the SEC in the first weekend of March. It’s not going to be long before people start recognizing Oats as a top ten coach in college hoops.

Alabama basketball destroys Texas A&M 100-75

Alabama steamrolls Texas A&M 100-75 to stand alone atop the SEC leaderboard

Alabama basketball’s debut in the Crimson Tide uniforms could not have gone better as they rolled Texas A&M 100-75 on Saturday. It is the Tide’s eighth 100-point performance this season and over the last 30 years, only one other team has done that: The 1995-96 Kentucky Wildcats who went on to win that year’s national championship with a 34-2 record.

The Crimson Tide stands atop the SEC leaderboard alone with just six games remaining. Both South Carolina and Auburn sit one game back, but the Tide won’t have to face either side again in the regular season. It feels as if Alabama and Auburn are on a collision course to meet in the SEC Tournament Championship game based on how heated the first two games have been.

[autotag]Mark Sears[/autotag] continues to play as well as anyone in the country as he led all Alabama scorers with 23 points. The five Tide starters alone would have outscored the Aggies 76-75. The Crimson Tide will be back in action on Wednesday when they host the Florida Gators.

Alabama basketball projected to be a three-seed in March Madness by ESPN bracketology experts

ESPN bracketology expert Joe Lunardi projects Alabama as a three-seed in March Madness

At 9-2 in the SEC, the Alabama Crimson Tide stand atop the leaderboard with a 0.5 game lead over the South Carolina Gamecocks. The Gamecocks and Tide were tied for the lead in the SEC heading into last night before Auburn beat South Carolina 101-61 to give the Tide sole possession of the conference.

The Tide’s red hot start to conference play has catapulted them into being a projected three seed in March Madness by ESPN bracketology expert Joe Lunardi. Inconsistencies on the defensive end as well as a tendency to get sloppy with possession of the ball is what could come back to bite the Tide, but they have all of the offensive fire power to make a deep run in March.

Alabama will be back in action tomorrow against the Texas A&M Aggies as they hope to extend their lead in the conference. [autotag]Mark Sears[/autotag] is playing as solid of basketball as anyone in the country right now, and after being named to the Naismith Trophy Player of the Year Midseason Team, his confidence is only going to grow.

The following is courtesy of the Atlantic Coast Conference

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Atlantic Division champion Wake Forest and Coastal Division champion Virginia are the top two seeds for the 2023 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Championship, which gets underway Tuesday and runs through Sunday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina.

The Championship will feature a pool-play format, leading into a four-team, single-elimination bracket to determine the league champion.

NCAA tournament selection committee chairman says the No. 1 team is Alabama

With 13 wins between Quad 1 and 2 teams, Alabama is the No. 1 team in the country

The Alabama Crimson Tide suffered its first loss of the season in SEC play last Wednesday on the road against the Tennessee Volunteers. While the loss hurts, Alabama still has a one-game lead in the conference and controls its own destiny.

Fortunately, the loss to Tennessee didn’t change much in the eyes of the NCAA tournament selection committee as chairman and Bradley AD Chris Reynolds said, “The No. 1 team is Alabama, on the strength of 13 wins in Quad 1 and 2. They have a very strong resume, and that win at Houston put them over the top.”

Alabama’s resume has been incredibly impressive all year, especially with the Quad 1 and 2 wins. They played arguably the toughest out-of-conference schedule featuring the likes of Michigan State, Gonzaga, North Carolina and Houston as well as playing in one of the toughest conferences in America.

With games still against Arkansas, Auburn and Texas A&M the Tide will have a chance to add a couple more big wins to their resume before selection Sunday.

Notre Dame football: 5 things to know for Dec. 8, 2022

A great goes to the draft, a new four-star commits, and a bracket for all college football fans today…

In baseball its called the hot stove while in college football, well, I don’t know what it’s called but it’s certainly a busy time.  Although it isn’t technically free agent season in college football, it pretty much is with the transfer portal being bombarded with names this week.

There is also the NFL draft that players are declaring for, the Notre Dame men’s basketball team getting back in the win column on Wednesday night, and plenty of fun continued in other parts of yesterday.  Here are the five things every Notre Dame football fan needs to know for Thursday, December 8, 2022.

Alabama takes down No. 1 UNC in 4 OT thriller

Crimson Tide stuns No. 1 Tar Heels in an instant classic

It may only be November, but that fact doesn’t take away from the Alabama Crimson Tide knocking off No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels in quadruple overtime. The victory over UNC is Alabama’s first win against a top-ranked team in the country since 2004.

The game was back and forth the entire way with little-to-no separation between the two sides. Alabama’s Brandon Miller picked up his fourth foul early into the second half, but he played smart and was able to stay on the floor the rest of the game, which was massive for Nate Oats and the team. Miller struggled shooting all night as he was 4-21 from the field, but his presence was felt in a lot of other ways.

The decisive moment in the game came with nine seconds to go in the fourth overtime when Charles Bediako was called for goaltending which was eventually overturned to a block that give the Tide possession up by one. Jaden Bradley knocked down a free throw to put Alabama up 103-101 before UNC had to launch one final three that was nowhere near good.

The 2022 national title runner-ups were led by Caleb Love who had 34 points and nine rebounds. UNC lost to Iowa State earlier in the week and will have some regrouping to do, but this will be a dangerous side come tournament time.

This is a massive resume builder for the Crimson Tide!

NCAA Tournament: Dick Vitale’s Final Four picks

Do you like Dickie V’s picks?

College basketball hasn’t felt quite the same this year as Dick Vitale hasn’t been able to announce games since before the new year because of complications from his battle with cancer.  The good news for all is that Vitale appears to be on the mend, in fact he even showed up at the SEC Tournament over the weekend.

That doesn’t mean he’ll be back in front of a TV camera giving his “Diaper Dandies” and “PTPers” anytime too soon, unfortunately.

However, Vitale did release his bracket picks on Sunday night.  See below to find out who the legendary commentator has winning each regional and ultimately cutting down the nets.
