Until football (hopefully) gets underway in August much will be written about the recently-concluded 2020 NFL Draft and how each pick is projected to perform going forward.
As everyone now knows, four former Badgers were taken during the 3-day draft and one has since been signed as an undrafted free agent, those four being running back Jonathan Taylor, linebacker Zack Baun, center Tyler Biadasz and wide receiver Quintez Cephus and the undrafted free agent being linebacker Chris Orr.
Here is what experts and news outlets are saying about the respective teams’ selections of each Wisconsin product.
The Indianapolis Colts’ selection of Jonathan Taylor at No. 41 overall
CBS Sports: A-
“Taylor is a freakish blend of size and speed who truly benefited from a great offensive line at Wisconsin. He’s about to play behind a BETTER one in Indy.”
ColtsWire: B/C (two analysts)
“This is a very interesting pick for the simple fact that [Marlon] Mack is in the final year of his rookie deal and he had a solid season last year, rushing for over 1,000 rushing yards and eight touchdowns…He has the skillset to work around crowded interiors and break off a big play. His shows a lot of patience and his combination of size and speed works well in any scheme. He can wear down defenses while also possessing the traits to break off a long run. His skill set, toughness and overall talent should allow him to start quickly while potentially developing into a three-down back.”
“The Colts surrendered a fifth-round pick to move up three spots, and they selected Jonathan Taylor as a result. The reason for moving up is easy to understand. They had to leap the Jaguars, who are looking to trade Leonard Fournette, in order to secure Taylor. Running back wasn’t a huge need, but Marlon Mack is just an above-average talent. Taylor is a huge upgrade, and he gives Indianapolis so much more upside.”
