Patrick Mahomes says he threw behind-the-pack pass vs. Lions ‘out of spite’

Patrick Mahomes says that he threw a behind-the-back pass against the Lions “out of spite” after Travis Kelce ran the wrong route.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes did the impossible against the Detroit Lions by completing a behind-the-back pass to star tight end Travis Kelce during preseason action on Saturday.

Though Mahomes had been seen practicing to make one of these throws during training camp, nobody expected that he would try to make it happen during a live game.

Fans had a field day reacting to Mahomes’ latest highlight-reel play on Twitter, and when former Chiefs signal-caller Trent Green asked the reigning Super Bowl MVP to comment on the trick pass during the game, his response was unexpected.

Check out Green’s mid-game interview with Mahomes in this video, which was posted to Twitter by the NFL’s official account:

It remains unclear whether Mahomes was being serious when talking to Green, but either way, his outstanding play against Detroit is sure to go down as one of the top highlights of the NFL’s entire 2024 preseason.
