Former Husker named to the NFL’s ‘The Top 100’

Linebacker Lavonte David was named No. 99 in the annual countdown of the league’s top players. 

A former Blackshirt was named one of the National Football League’s Top 100 Players for last season. Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David was named No. 99 in the annual countdown of the league’s top players.

In 12 seasons in Tampa Bay, David has amassed 1,480 career tackles, 33.5 sacks, 28 forced fumbles, 18 fumble recoveries, 12 interceptions, and three defensive touchdowns. Last season, he appeared in 15 games, recording 134 tackles and 4.5 sacks.

Before having a successful career in the NFL, David had one of the more successful careers in Blackshirt history. Over the course of two seasons, David was named first-team All-Big 12 (2010), first-team All-Big Ten (2011), and a 2x first-team All-American (2010, 2011).

In 27 games, he recorded 285 tackles, 28 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, two interceptions, 12 passes defended, three forced fumbles, and two fumbles recovered. His 285 career tackles currently rank him fifth in program history.

David is now one of eight players in NFL history with 1,400+ tackles, 30+ sacks, and 10+ interceptions.
