Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past 24 hours, you’ve heard that Texas A&M head baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle and his staff are departing Aggieland for Texas.
If that is not the ultimate heel turn in the eyes of A&M fans, I don’t know what is. However, coaches always leave, and they usually say they aren’t interested in another job before bolting for another position.
This situation didn’t feel like just the normal fan emotion of a stab in the back because Schlossnagle is transitioning to A&M’s archrival. The worst thing about the whole situation is it took away from one of the best seasons of any Texas A&M athletics team. Aggie relief pitcher Chris Cortez echoes the frustration of most fans after the news was confirmed.
This should not take away from what this 2024 Texas A&M baseball team has done. The players make the team, not the coaches. Less than 24 hours ago we were one of the last two teams standing, playing for a National Championship.
Nothing can take that away from us.
