Numerous Texas players shined at the 2024 NFL Combine last week.
It’s a testament to the player development under Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff.
For comparison, the Longhorns did not have a single player selected in the 2022 NFL draft under former head coach Tom Herman. Fast forward to 2024 after three years under Sarkisian, Texas sent 11 players to the NFL Combine and each of them have a solid chance to be drafted.
Aside from wide receiver Jordan Whittington who could not participate due to a hamstring injury and running back Jonathon Brooks still rehabbing from ACL surgery, each of the Texas players in attendance significantly improved their draft stock.
Xavier Worthy stole the show with a record-breaking 40-yard dash time of 4.21 and impressive broad and vertical jumps. Fellow wide receiver Adonai Mitchell showcased his speed as well with a 4.34, sixth-best among all players at the combine.
Offensive tackle Christian Jones and tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders had solid showings of their own, while on the defensive side Byron Murphy, T’Vondre Sweat and Jaylan Ford each solidified and/or improved their draft grade.
Running back Keilan Robinson and defensive back Ryan Watts were projected as undrafted free agents, but after strong showings at the combine, each could now be drafted in the later rounds.
When recapping the combine performances, NFL Network analyst Chase Daniel echoed strong statements regarding the Texas football Program.
Texas football dominated the NFL Combine, the whole combine was a Texas clinic.
Texas is certainly in good hands when it comes to player/professional development under Sarkisian. This seems to only be the start of what is to come.
