Roman Wilson’s take on blocking should be music to Rams’ ears

Michigan’s Roman Wilson has the exact attitude the Rams look for in a receiver, and it could make him a target for them in the draft

If you want to play wide receiver for the Los Angeles Rams, you better be willing and able to block. It’s been a hallmark of Sean McVay’s offense, and it’s a big reason the Rams are able to run 11 personnel with three receivers and one tight end more than any team in the NFL.

Cooper Kupp is one of the best blocking receivers in the league. Robert Woods is in the same category, too. And even Puka Nacua has excelled as a blocker in the run game, even taking on massive defensive ends when asked to.

Knowing how important blocking is in the Rams’ offense, the comments from Michigan’s Roman Wilson should be music to McVay’s ears. At the NFL combine on Friday, Wilson told reporters that he lives by a “no block, no rock” mantra. In other words, if you don’t block, you don’t get the ball.

He genuinely takes pride in blocking defenders and helping his teammates find open space, which is exactly what you love to hear from a young wideout.

While wide receiver is by no means the Rams’ biggest need this offseason, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them select one at some point – potentially even on Day 2. That’s where Wilson is expected to go, though an impressive showing at the combine could land him in the second round.
