Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy is preparing to make the first start of his collegiate career on Saturday against BYU.
Murphy appeared in the Rice and Baylor games earlier this season in mop up duty. However, the Longhorns will now rely heavily on Murphy for what could be the next few weeks as starting quarterback Quinn Ewers recovers from a shoulder injury.
The 6-foot-5 redshirt freshman shined in Texas’ Orange-White spring game back in April. He concluded the scrimmage completing 9-of-13 passes for 165 yards and one touchdown.
After spending his freshman season in Austin rehabbing from an ankle injury, Murphy is now in his second year of Steve Sarkisian’s offense and the players and staff have high confidence in him.
Here’s a look at several of Murphy’s highlights from both the high school and college level thus far.
