The hype is real surrounding Texas football after Steve Sarkisian’s squad marched into Tuscaloosa and defeated then-No. 3 Alabama, 34-24, in Week 2.
It’s too early in the season to sip the Kool-Aid. Texas still needs to show consistency over the next 10 games. However, the Longhorns showed what they’re capable of when they play their best football.
Texas skyrocketed in pretty much every college football ranking this week. The AP Poll put the Longhorns at No. 4. The Coaches Poll slotted Texas at No. 6.
ESPN’s updated FPI lists Texas with the second-best odds of reaching the College Football Playoff. It’s 45.1% chance trails only Ohio State’s 45.3%.
Even more noteworthy, the Longhorns have the second-best odds to win the national championship (12%). Texas trails only Ohio State (15.3%) on that front as well.
Georgia, USC and Florida State are in the mix behind Texas and Ohio State, but it’s clear the dominating win by Texas in Week 2 has caught the college football world by storm.
We’ll see if Texas can keep the momentum rolling in Week 3 against Wyoming.
