Isiah Pacheco has yet to play in the preseason because he is recovering from two offseason surgeries. The Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff has been cautious about Pacheco’s involvement in practice and team drills.

On Monday, following practice, Andy Reid told the media about the chances that Pacheco suits up for Kansas City’s final preseason game against the Cleveland Browns on Saturday.

“There’s a chance [that Pacheco will play],” Reid said. “He just has to be cleared and all that.”

Reid’s short answer should give Chiefs fans hope that the 24-year-old running back will be ready for week one of the regular season when Kansas City will face the Detroit Lions.

Monday was the first time Pacheco was seen not wearing a non-contact jersey during practice. Reid described Pacheco’s status in practice as a positive step.

The former seventh-round pick is a vital piece of the Chiefs’ offense, and playing in live action would be a monumental development as Pacheco and Kansas City’s coaches make sure that he can be effective in the regular season.
