After leading the LSU women’s basketball and baseball programs to respective national titles, [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] and [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] have been named the recipients of the Allstate Sugar Bowl’s James C. Corbett Award, which is given annually to the top amateur athletes in the state of Louisiana.
Reese helped lead LSU to its first national title in program history while setting an NCAA record for double-doubles in a season, which she broke in the championship game. She also led the SEC in scoring and rebounding, breaking a conference single-season record in the latter mark.
Crews, meanwhile, won the Golden Spikes Award while leading the nation in runs scored (100) and walks (71). He ranked second in on-base percentage (.567) and base hits (110) while finishing third in batting average (.426).
The Longwood, Florida, native became the second overall pick in the draft, signing a record over-slot deal for a position player.
Unlike Crews, Reese is set to return for another year as she and LSU look for a repeat with another loaded team.
Angel Reese is the winner of the 2023 James J. Corbett Award as the top female amateur athlete in the state of Louisiana!
