Big 12 media days kicked off in Arlington, Texas, on Wednesday.
Players and coaches from all 14 teams represent their university and answer questions from the media about preseason hype, expectations and everything in between. However, a comment made by Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark about Texas and Oklahoma has stolen the show already.
When asked about Texas and Oklahoma carrying the conference in recruiting, the commissioner had a rebuttal locked and loaded about the two future SEC programs.
Big 12’s Brett Yormark asked about OU & Texas ‘carrying the conference’ in recruiting: “I don’t think they’ve carried the conference in recruiting. They haven’t been in our championship game the past few years”

Certainly a feisty comment from the commissioner, but also a case of deflecting of the highest order when you consider Texas and Oklahoma have held the top two spots in the Big 12’s recruiting rankings every year dating to 2010.
In terms of the Big 12 championship, either Texas or Oklahoma appeared in every conference title game from 1999-2020, making the past two seasons the first time since 1998 that neither appeared.
While the Big 12 has some decent programs the commissioner is certainly downplaying the loss of the two.
