Ravens editorial director trolls EA Sports and Josh Allen over… a positive play? (via @Doug_Farrar):

It seems that some people in the Baltimore Ravens organization aren’t happy that Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was named the cover athlete of the Madden 24 video game, and how the honor was put forth. Soon after Allen was announced, Ravens Editorial Director Ryan Mink put out a bit of smack via his own (and not the team’s, it should be said) Twitter account.

At the end of the Madden 24 trailer, there’s a play in which Allen trucks Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen for a touchdown.

This caused some feelings.

The play Mink details happened with 1:30 left in the first half of Buffalo’s 23-20 Week 4 win over the Ravens last season. The Bills had first-and-10 at the Baltimore 41-yard line, and the crux of the biscuit appears to be that Queen tackled Allen nine yards downfield.

Most coaches will take a nine-yard gain on first-and-10 all day ling, but we digress. On the play in question, the Ravens were in Cover-3, and they executed a pressure exchange in which safety Chuck Clark blitzed from Allen’s back side, and edge-rusher Odafe Oweh dropped into coverage on Allen’s front side. Allen, who rushed 11 times for 70 yards and a touchdown in this game, probably looked at the numbers and thought that he’d have more explosive play potential if he took off with the ball. With Oweh and Queen dropping back, Allen had a lot of free space, as the overhead angle of the play confirms.

So, with all due respect to Mr. Mink, we’re struggling to find the negative here. And we won’t be the ones to show Allen’s 20-yard run in the third quarter in which Queen got turned around coming back from coverage.

We will absolutely not do that.
