Running back Jahmyr Gibbs was expected to be the second running back off the board in the first round. While that was the case, no one expects Gibbs to be selected within the first 15 picks of the draft.
Gibbs was drafted by the Detroit Lions at No. 12 overall, following a series of trades that took place inside the top 10.
While Gibbs is an immediate starter for the franchise that will boost the Detroit offense, most believed that he would be available later on in the first round. The decision to draft him earlier than expected angered some fans and puzzled many.
The General Manager for the Lions, Brad Holmes, hosted a press conference last night where he defended the pick.
He explains that his motto has always been to draft guys that are the right fit for the team at the time. He mentions that he first saw Gibbs in action when he attended the Alabama vs. Texas matchup early on in the 2022 college football season.
