Editor’s note: Giants head coach Brian Daboll offered an update on Gillan and said he’s on a flight back to the US and should arrive on Wednesday night.
Shortly after the New York Giants upset the Green Bay Packers, 27-22, in London this past Sunday, they boarded a flight home to East Rutherford.
However, punter Jamie Gillan was not with them.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports that Gillan is dealing with a passport issue and remains stuck in London for the time being. It was allegedly an anticipated problem.
#Giants P Jamie Gillan remains in London following the trip over the weekend as he works through some passport issues, sources tell me and @TomPelissero. “The Scottish Hammer” is expected to fly back to the U.S. on Thursday, though the team will work out punters just in case.

Gillan came to the U.S. on a NATO visa with his father, and that designation never got changed to a work visa when he entered the NFL. Not Gillan’s fault – just slipped through the cracks. With help from U.S. diplomats, Gillan now has a new passport and is headed home soon. https://t.co/VrMol47fGv

Although the issue is expected to be resolved in short order, with Gillan anticipated back on Thursday, the Giants will work out some free agent punters as a contingency plan.
However, no punters were listed as part of the Giants’ weekly workouts on Tuesday. According to the NFL’s transaction wire, cornerback C.J. Moore and tight end Sammis Reyes were the only two who made a stop in East Rutherford.
It’s likely that punter workouts will be held on Wednesday.
