Woj: Celtics ‘won’t stand in Udoka’s way’ if suspended Boston coach gets offer from another team

Does this tell us anything about Udoka’s future with the team?

At the moment, it is hard to see how suspended Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka makes his way back to the Celtics’ bench as details trickle out about the details and nature of the workplace relationship that got the Boston head coach suspended for the 2022-23 season.

But if new reporting from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski proves accurate, they may not need to worry about that. Per Woj, “the Celtics won’t stand in Udoka’s way should he have the chance to become a coaching candidate elsewhere,” and that other franchises “have tried to gather a preliminary understanding of the full explanation for Udoka’s suspension in preparation for possibly evaluating him for future coaching employment.

This does not mean a Celtics return is out of the question based on what has been reported so far, but as Wojnarowski notes, it would likely be “a difficult pathway back to his reinstatement.”
