Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes enters his 6th season in the NFL with an extensive resume. Though the Chiefs’ 2021 season wasn’t as successful as past years, Mahomes still had himself a season.
He had a 66.3% pass completion rate and totaled almost 5,000 yards by passing. Mahomes once again was a Pro Bowler in ’21.
Below, we look at Patrick Mahomes’ 2022 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.
The Kansas City Chiefs are always a contender with Mahomes, who inked a massive deal last offseason, but he can’t possibly do it all on his own. With the help of teammate Travis Kelce, the Chiefs should be able to find themselves as serious contenders in 2022.
Patrick Mahomes’ ADP: 31.29

Mahomes has an ADP of 31.29 in redraft leagues, which puts him at the end of the third round in 12-team leagues. His ADP is lower than his teammate Travis Kelce (15.15), though.
Among quarterbacks, Mahomes’ ADP puts him 2nd at the position, behind the likes of Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills) and slightly ahead of Justin Herbert (Los Angeles Chargers), Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens) and Kyler Murray (Arizona Cardinals).

Where should you draft Mahomes?
Mahomes’ fantasy value is expected to take a hit this season with the departure of star WR Tyreek Hill. However, Mahomes will still have Kelce and has one of the league’s best pocket presences.
Since his AP MVP season in 2018, when he threw a league-high 50 touchdowns, Mahomes has regressed but has posted a 26-6 record over the last two seasons.
Mahomes will have former Pittsburgh Steelers’ WR JuJu Smith-Schuster and former Packers WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Both should be able to fill the void left by the trading of Hill.
What hurts Mahomes the most is how loaded the position is in fantasy. Mahomes ended last season 4th among quarterbacks in fantasy points. The Chiefs should take a step back in terms of how competitive they are, which should open up the door for more Mahomes.
He’s accurately priced here, and if you want to jump on a top-tier quarterback, Mahomes is as solid as any.
I would suggest waiting till the early 4th round, though, because the position is so stacked if someone overdrafts him based on popularity, you’re not going to be left in the dust.
