It’s been a bizarre couple of weeks for the Ohio State football team and its recruiting efforts. The Buckeyes missed out on some pretty high-profile targets they thought they had a good chance of landing, had a four-star corner de-commit, followed by this.
On Tuesday, four-star 2023 tight end commit Ty Lockwood announced his decision to de-commit from Ohio State and flip over to Alabama. At 6-foot, 5-inches, and 225 pounds, Lockwood was the first player to commit to OSU’s 2023 class and a tireless peer recruiter that seemingly helped sell the Buckeye program. He is rated as the No. 9 tight end and 141st overall prospect in the recruiting cycle according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
It’s just another turn of events in what has been one zany recruiting class thus far. Lockwood seemed to be one of the most locked-in recruits in the class. However, it didn’t take long for that to change after he received an offer from Alabama and visited Tuscaloosa.

With the news, Ohio State is now down to 18 commitments for the 2023 class and has dropped to the No. 4 spot in the updated 247Sports Team Composite Rankings.
Hang tight, because there could be some more moving, shaking, and unpredictable twists and turns with this recruiting class.
