Thursday is the final day before NBA free agency, and veteran guard Patty Mills has officially declined his player option with the Nets.
NBA reporter Brian Lewis of the New York Post broke the news that Mills turned down his option.
Another report from NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski indicates that the former NBA champion, “hasn’t ruled out a return to the Nets.”
Mills turned down his $6 million option, choosing to test the free agency waters and possibly earn more money. The opportunity to talk with other teams gives Mills the option to earn more money, previous reports indicated that the guard is “likely” to return to the team.
The organization can pay Mills a maximum of $7 million per year, giving him a bump from $6.2 million.
Mills averaged 11 points per game this season, shooting an impressive 40 percent from the field.
Mills will absolutely garner interest from teams all over the league so if Brooklyn want to retain the talent, they’ll need to work on a contract offer for the backup point guard.
Mills, who'll attract significant interest around the league, hasn't ruled out a return to the Nets, sources tell ESPN. https://t.co/V3bPS7LXRd
