Drop this one in the bucket of very good news for former Ohio State and current New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas. You can probably congratulate rookie receiver Chris Olave as well.
According to head coach Dennis Allen, Thomas is expected to have recovered enough from an ankle injury to be available for the start of training camp. The Saints are currently going through OTAs and though Thomas has yet to participate, he has been rehabbing and getting treatment from the team.
Thomas missed the entire 2021 season with the injury after he postponed surgery to repair ligaments in June, then suffered another setback later in the season that ended the campaign for him.
“I think he’s doing well in his rehab. He’s not ready yet. But he’s here, he’s rehabbing, he’s getting himself better. And we’re certainly anxious to get him out here,” Allen told reporters. “I know that he’s working his tail off to get himself back. And we feel good about where he’s at right now.”

Allen was then pinned down on a timetable that included Thomas being ready for training camp and he seemed more than optimistic about his progress.
“That’s certainly our plan,” Allen said. “If I had a crystal ball and could tell you all these things, I’d probably be making a lot more money and doing something different. But, yeah — our hope is that he’s gonna be ready to go for training camp. So that’s what we’re pushing for.”
The Saints could certainly use Thomas to be back to his old habits. With Jameis Winston slinging the ball around, and with another former Buckeye, rookie Chris Olave, getting the former All-Pro back in the lineup could be a huge, huge boost for the Saints’ offense in 2022.
