There has been a lot of noise regarding all the new faces that will be Austin in 2022, but in order for Texas to truly thrive, they need some of the more experienced players to have a big season.
Texas will be experiencing a lot of turnover on offense, as their offense ranks No. 77 in ESPN’s rankings for returning production. This means the few returning players they do have will be asked to step up even more and provide the leadership that this team was lacking in 2021.
The Texas defense has the luxury of having more returning players, as they are returning 74% of their production from 2021. A mark that ranks as No. 37 in the country. However, the defense was not solid by any means and they were statistically one of the worst run defenses in the nation. They couldn’t stop a cold, let alone an opponents running back.
With another offseason in the system to grow on both sides of the ball, it is now very much fair game to expect more from experienced players. Here are some of the veterans Texas will need a big season from in 2022, in order to have a truly successful season.
