The Buffalo Bills lost their assistant general manger to the New York Giants. Joe Schoen was introduced as their new GM last week.

In the process, Schoen did not forget where he came from.

The Giants’ new front office leader was sure to thank those in Orchard Park pretty quickly during his first press conference in New York. Specifically, Buffalo’s general manager in Beane was a highlight.

“I want to start with some thank-yous. Terry and Kim Pegula and the entire Pegula family. Sean McDermott, Brandon Beane and the entire Bills organization, Bills Mafia,” he said. “I will miss everyone at One Bills Drive.

“To Brandon, I can’t thank you enough. Not only were you a great boss, mentor but also a best friend, Schoen continued. “The best thing that happened for me was working for Brandon Beane. He didn’t come up the traditional scouting path. He can scout and he can evaluate, but he was also a director of football operations. He dealt with the salary cap, the training room, sports performance and the entire football organization. He put me in his hip pocket and taught me that side of the business that I didn’t necessarily know.”

Such a praise from someone moving on is something Bills fan can certainly be proud of. Clearly Beane has a growing reputation around the league.

Upon Schoen’s departure, Beane also returned the compliments.

“(Schoen) He is such a good person and he really worked hard for us these last five seasons, but it’s a gain for the Giants. I’m happy for him,” Beane said. “He’s a great evaluator. He’s a great communicator. He’s a really good leader. He can talk to the owner, he can talk to anybody, a sponsor, fans, whoever. He just knows how to relate.

“We’ll miss him. You don’t replace people like that right away.”

In terms of replacing Schoen, Beane said at his end of season press conference that it hadn’t even crossed his mind just yet. It might not even happen as others might just pick up more slack. If it does, Beane said it won’t happen until after the upcoming draft.

And speaking of which, it sounds like the Bills might have a good trade partner located in New York now for those who want another little silver lining…
