Former Ohio State linebackers Al Washington is headed to Notre Dame to join Marcus Freeman’s staff according to news first reported by ESPN. He is expected to join the team on the defensive side of the ball as the run game coordinator. Other reports have since confirmed the hire.
Washington was a recent casualty of all the moves on the defensive side of the ball by head coach Ryan Day over the last few weeks. With Jim Knowles taking over as the defensive coordinator in Columbus, there has been a domino effect of current staff members moving on from the program, Washington being one of them.
Sources: Notre Dame is hiring Al Washington as the school’s new defensive run game coordinator and defensive line coach, sources told ESPN. Washington has coached at Ohio State, Michigan and Boston College in his career.
