Raptors assign rookie Dalano Banton to 905 in G League

Banton, through 32 games this season, is averaging 3.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists with the Raptors.

On Monday, the Toronto Raptors announced that they assigned rookie Dalano Banton to the Raptors 905 in the NBA G League. He is expected to play on Monday as the 905 host the Long Island Nets.

Banton, through 32 games this season, is averaging 3.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists. He has seen a small role with Toronto this season and has previously logged time with the 905, averaging 26.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, four assists and 1.3 steals in four appearances.

The Raptors recently turned to Banton more with several players sidelined in the health and safety protocol. However, with the Raptors back at full strength, the team will send Banton, along with Malachi Flynn and Isaac Bonga, to the 905 to get more playing time.

Raptors head coach Nick Nurse detailed the assignment for them.

They haven’t been on the court much at all here for a couple of weeks so just to get them out there and give them some quality minutes on the floor and some rhythm and timing conditioning. I think playing with pace, attacking the paint, playing the right way, playing both ends.

The opportunity to play with the 905 will give Banton the opportunity to log extended minutes and continue the adjustment to the next level. It can give him the confidence to perform at a high level, despite seeing limited time with Toronto.

Banton will likely continue to split time with the Raptors and 905 throughout the season as he hopes to be the next in line to benefit from a strong development system in Toronto.
