Texas’ season is on the line this weekend, as a loss to West Virginia effectively ends their shot at a bowl game.
It is quite the hole Steve Sarkisian and his new staff have found themselves in. A team that was once viewed as a dark horse playoff team, and seen as having a great chance to win the Big 12, is now back where they have been for the past decade, which is being a major disappointment.
To make matters worse, they are without star running back Bijan Robinson for the rest of the season, and the offense has yet to experience consistency from either quarterback whether it be Casey Thompson or Hudson Card.
Even with losing five consecutive games, with the last one being a devastating overtime loss to Kansas, Texas can salvage any dignity and make it to a bowl game if they win their next two. Doing so would perhaps quiet down the rumors of a lost locker room, and possibly portray Sarkisian in that golden boy light he was in at the beginning of the season.
Standing in their way is a West Virginia team that has had a very similar trajectory of underperforming after coming into the season with lofty goals and expectations that this would be the year it clicked for them.
