Only Fitzpatrick, Thomas and Bostic are new captains for the upcoming season. Both McLaurin and Young were voted captains during the season in 2020.

Thomas is entering his second season with the Football Team after having a breakthrough season in 2020. He earned a contract extension this summer. Despite still being fairly new to the tight end position, Thomas has become a mentor for younger players like John Bates and Sammis Reyes.
The Washington Football Team opens the 2021 season on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
