Anything less than a College Football Playoff appearance is now considered a failure at Ohio State. And to head coach Ryan Day’s credit, he has embraced it.
Others have too. The Buckeyes are on the shortlist of best programs in the country, both historically and currently. There’s Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State. Oklahoma gets a nod close in that direction, but that’s it.
So maybe we shouldn’t be surprised then that USA TODAY’s Erick Smith has gifted us with his predictions for all the bowl games when all the dust and fun has settled for the 2021 season. And yeah — he has Ohio State enjoying another fantastic year.
How fantastic you ask? How about another trip to the College Football Playoff? Smith has OSU in the Orange Bowl opposite Alabama in one of the two CFP semifinals. The only question is — would OSU fans relish that opportunity or shy away from it? We say, bring on the best to be the best.
The college football season begins in earnest next week.

Smith has Oklahoma and Clemson meeting in the other semifinal in the Cotton Bowl. You can see the rest of Smith’s predictions on the postseason by visiting USA TODAY Sports and scrolling your way through the myriad of bowl games played these days (we’re not complaining because … you know — it’s more football).
