The world of college and amateur sports is about to change as we know it. With Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) heading out of the train station and seemingly into practice, it’ll be a brand new world for some college athletes when it comes to getting paid.

There are of course some really good things that come out of all of this, but with anything that moves the needle forward, some sputtering and smoking are bound to occur. It’s that side of the coin that many aren’t talking about very much.

But former Ohio State head coach and current Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer touched on it when speaking to USA TODAY’s Mackenzie Salmon.

“I’m not saying it’s wrong (on the pendulum swinging toward athlete control),” said Meyer. “Players now can transfer at any point, not to be restricted, I imagine that at some point they’ll be able to do it. You know, any movement creates a lot of problems though, too … I’m not saying it’s wrong. It’s here. Name and likeness is going to throw another layer to it, and you’re going to see college athletes make a lot of money. And I know the intent is there to be good, but with anything there’s going to come some issues.”

Meyer also addresses some tampering he’s heard that’s been occurring in college because of the relaxed transfer rules, but you can have a listen to the brief interview by watching the video for yourself.
