While the Raiders aren’t much for participating in new alternate uniform combinations, they have been known to sport a throwback uniform from time to time. It’s how they participate in the NFL’s Color Rush games without breaking their stance on not messing with their uniform.
The NFL has allowed teams to don many different alternate uniforms and throwbacks. But they don’t currently allow teams to wear alternate helmets. As of 2022, that will change.
NFL approved alternate helmets today for teams wearing throwback uniforms starting in 2022, per league sources. This opens the door to the defending world-champion Bucs wearing the old white helmets with the orange swashbuckling Buccaneer as early as 2022.

Some are having dreams of black helmets, note that the rule allows alternate helmets for teams wearing “throwback uniforms”, not alternate uniforms. That means throwback helmets as well and the Raiders have never worn black helmets.
Over the years you will see the Raiders don a uniform that looks a lot like the ones they wore in the 70s in which their white uniforms have numerals with silver inside black instead of the other way around which is how their standard uniforms are.
What they have rarely messed with, however, is the helmet. There’s a throwback version of that too, which has silver inside the shield instead of black. They wore those helmets back in September of 2009 for their 50th anniversary season opener against the Chargers, but not since.

Not only is the silver inside the shield hotness, but so too is the swords coming out of the shield. This needs to happen. Give the people what they want.
