Texas head coach Chris Beard writes a letter to Longhorn Nation

New Texas head coach Chris Beard stresses the importance of homecourt advantage and improving student attendance.

A day after new Texas head coach Chris Beard wrote a heartfelt goodbye letter to Texas Tech, Longhorns fans received a welcome letter on Tuesday morning.

Beard shocked many when he chose to leave a good thing in Lubbock to instead start from scratch at Texas. However, he appears to be ready and excited for the new challenge that lies ahead.

“I’m humbled, I’m honored and I’m excited to be the head basketball coach at the University of Texas,’ Beard began the letter with. “The expectations here at Texas are exactly the opportunity that I was looking for. Expectations don’t scare me. It’s the reason I’m here, and I’m so proud to be back on the Forty Acres,” Beard said of his alma mater.

Most importantly, Beard stressed the importance of homecourt advantage to the students and fans. He wants to improve student attendance at the Frank Erwin Center and will work tirelessly to make that happen.

With several players choosing to enter the transfer portal or transition to the NBA, Beard will have his work cut out for him throughout his first year on the Forty Acres. However, he’s compiled an impressive staff up to this point that includes Ulric Maligi, Rodney Terry and Chris Ogden.

Winning games ultimately fills seats at the Frank Erwin Center, but there’s no doubt that Beard brings a breath of fresh air to this basketball program.
