Ohio State is losing a lot of talent to the NFL. That’s nothing new, but it also means that others will have to step up and be the playmakers the team can count on to make another run to a Big Ten Championship and potential appearance in the College Football Playoff.
One of those guys that could have a break-out type of year is defensive end Tyreke Smith. The 6-foot, 3-inch, 260-pounder was a high four-star recruit in the class of 2018 and was expected to do some really big things for the Buckeyes. That has yet to really materialize because of some other studs coming off the edge and lingering injuries.
But we saw flashes of all that fast-twitch talent towards the tail-end of last year. He became a force on the edge late in the year with his length and burst off the edge and should be primed to be a big part of the defense this fall.
