Texas’ recruiting department received positive news on Sunday.
Four-star defensive end Keahnist Thompson mentioned the Longhorns among the final eight schools left in his recruitment. Texas A&M, Miami, Alabama, USC, Auburn, UCF and South Carolina were also listed.
The 6-4, 230-pound Florida native is the No. 19 player at his position in the 2022 recruiting class according to 247Sports composite rankings. There’s not a reported offer from Texas on either 247Sports or Rivals, but it’s clear Thompson has at least been in discussions with Steve Sarkisian’s staff enough to list the Longhorns as a primary interest.

Thompson is seemingly coveted by numerous Power Five programs across the country, but his latest reported offer dates back to September 2020. The Longhorns are the only program among his top schools that have not officially extended an offer.
