Micah Hyde’s free-agent pitch: ‘This is the Josh Allen Buffalo’

Buffalo Bills S Micah Hyde explains message he tells free agents to convince them to join the Bills.

Actions speak louder than words. If safety Micah Hyde was to try and recruit free agents to the Bills, re-signing with the team himself is a good first step. He did just that via a two-year extension last week.

But words can help, and Hyde admitted to SiriusXM NFL Radio on Friday that he’s using those to try and recruit players to join the Bills. The exact way he’s doing so was a nice touch as well.

The message is a simple one. Things after different in Buffalo now… but the big reason for that? In Hyde’s words: Josh Allen.

“That’s kind of the pitch I have to free agents; yeah, it’s going to snow, but this isn’t the old Buffalo, this is the new Buffalo, this is the Josh Allen Buffalo,” Hyde said. “We’re winning ballgames, scoring points, and playing well on defense. I’m excited to see what (GM Brandon) Beane and (coach) Sean (McDermott) are able to do with some free agents.”

Hyde also might be a perfect spokesperson for Buffalo being… different now.

In 2017, Hyde was one of the first free-agent signings of the team following McDermott’s hiring. After signing that extension, he even admitted that a few years back, he didn’t have any interest in joining the Bills.

“I was getting love from Buffalo and I was like, ‘Cool,’ but I remember having a conversation with my agent before that and was saying, ‘Look, man. I grew up in cold Ohio. I went to Iowa, I was in Green Bay. C’mon, man. Let’s go to a warm city, and maybe like… not Buffalo,” Hyde said.

Hyde went onto admit he’s glad he went against his own wishes and has since ate his own words. That’s certainly another story he can share with any potential free agents considering joining the Bills.
