Newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian has landed his first major recruit at Texas.
Four-star wide receiver Armani Winfield announced his commitment to the Longhorns on Tuesday afternoon. He’s the second player to commit to Texas in the 2022 recruiting class.
Winfield is the No. 79 overall player on the 247Sports Composite. In the state of Texas, he ranks as the No. 14 overall prospect and the No. 12 wide receiver in the country. When five-star Quinn Ewers was committed to Texas, Winfield was reportedly close to doing the same. Once the quarterback left, Oklahoma or Ohio State seemed to be a favorite. However, Sarkisian was able to lock down this important in-state prospect.
Wide receivers coach Andre Coleman is expected to be retained from Tom Herman’s staff. He will now have the recruiting backing of Sarkisian, who just had wide receiver DeVonta Smith break several national championship game records and take home the Heisman trophy.

Winfield joins four-star cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau in the 2022 class. Texas has the opportunity to rebound from what could have been a disappointing class with Sarkisian running the show. The two 247Sports composite top 150 players are just the beginning of what’s to come.
