The University of Texas released an official statement on Saturday regarding the termination of head coach Tom Herman.
There are a variety of factors that likely played a critical role in this decision. Recruiting had suffered substantially over the last few months due to lack of player development and Herman’s squad continued to struggle against unranked, lesser quality opponents.
When you have the fifth-most talented roster in the country, you expect the results on the field to reflect that. Texas was unable to secure the Big 12 title under Herman.
The standards and expectations at Texas are understandably high — consistently compete for championships. Throughout the final few weeks of the 2020 season, it was apparent that the Longhorns were targeting former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer.
After Texas swung and missed on Meyer, Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly and Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian became two potential names to watch amid the coaching search.
According to Chip Brown of Horns247, Sarkisian is expected to be named the new head coach at Texas.
