One of Justin Fields’ dreams for the 2020 season will not be coming to fruition it appears. The finalists for the Heisman Trophy were announced Thursday, and Fields is not among the finalists. Those getting a virtual trip to New York because of the coronavirus pandemic are Alabama’s Mac Jones and DeVona Smith, Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, and Florida’s Kyle Trask.
The Ohio State quarterback did finish in the top ten, coming in at No. 7, but it was a far cry from where he was trending before the start of the year — and most especially — after a couple of contests to begin the 2020 campaign. However, the lack of games left little room for error for Fields. With just six games to his credit, and with two subpar performances, he was left in the dust by guys that played a lot more time in the spotlight and were able to put up more consistent numbers.
The six players finishing in the top ten behind the four finalists were Alabama running back Najee Harris (5), running back Breece Hall of Iowa State (6), Fields (7), BYU quarterback Zach Wilson (8), quarterback Ian Book of Notre Dame (9), and Florida tight end Kyle Pitts (10).
