Ohio State beat Rutgers, but the running game still confounds

Ohio State best Rutgers but the game was closer than many thought. There are questions about the running game that need to be addressed.

An Ohio State victory was never really in doubt Saturday night as Justin Fields just took over the game. He is making some great decisions on the field and taking what is given to him. His touch and accuracy have been amazing this year and this game showed off a lot of what he can do — again.

The offense can put up a ton of points when Fields is in control. Even with the offensive line still yet to hit its stride, Fields has been dynamic. Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson are the real deal and the ability of Fields to hit them was great to watch.

The running game is a little confusing right now as Master Teague has shown he is atop of the depth chart, but Trey Sermon has been a little disappointing. It could be Sermon’s knee, it could be vision, but the Buckeyes are going to need to find a way to get more from the position.

This was a convincing win, but somewhere along the way, you feel like the inability to get more explosive plays out of the tailback position could keep Ohio State from winning a matchup against a really good team. You know, like the one it might face in a College Football Playoff.
