Texas traveled to Stillwater and defeated the No. 6 team in the nation on Halloween.
It was a must-win game for the Longhorns Big 12 title hopes, but also a measuring stick for head coach Tom Herman’s future in Austin. Texas is now legitimate contenders for the conference championship if they can defeat West Virginia, Kansas, Iowa State and Kansas State.
Herman’s job isn’t secure at Texas, but successfully upsetting Oklahoma State on the road will certainly buy him time to finish out the season. The Longhorns escaped with a 41-34 victory in overtime over the Cowboys. It’s now the third time this season that Texas has forced extra time.
With the high stakes surrounding this particular matchup, Texas deservedly enjoyed their celebration in the locker room shortly after the game concluded.

Jack linebacker Joseph Ossai had a monster performance for Texas’ defense with 12 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks, and a forced fumble. It’s only fitting that Ossai had the game-winning sack of Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders to seal the victory in overtime.

Texas’ football program has faced their fair share of criticism and negativity over the last month. The best way to silence the doubters is to win football games — this one couldn’t have come at a better time.
