There’s too much uncertainty surrounding the Texas football program right now.
The fanbase is clearly fractured and ready for change. Where do we start?
Texas head coach Tom Herman is fielding an undisciplined squad that can’t seem to get out of their own way. There are no excuses for these types of performances considering the Longhorns have one of the most talented rosters in the country.
The off the field issues have seemingly gotten worse by the day. Herman has received criticism on the ‘Eyes of Texas’ controversy, whether he’s capable of developing talent and why he’s experiencing the same familiar failures as in years past.
However, the largest problem appears to be in the recruiting department. The mass exodus of highly rated recruits choosing to decommit from Texas this month has caught the attention of the national media.
One analyst in particular — Josh Pate of 247Sports — has seen enough. In a recent episode of The Late Kick with Josh Pate, he slammed the culture in Austin.

Although it’s a tough pill to swallow, it’s hard to disagree with anything that Pate stated. Many believe that the Oklahoma State matchup will determine Herman’s fate in Austin, but Pate isn’t so sure that a win would buy him extra time.
“That after all this, still needs an indicator? This Saturday is going to show this person something that they don’t already know? You’ve got recruits fleeing their home state of Texas left and right, the culture is a mess, you’ve got chronic penalty and turnover issues — procedurally they are a joke. In big games and in games they are favored by double digits in, there is zero consistency week to week in the program,” Pate said.
The only way to stop the bleeding surrounding this program is to go into Stillwater and defeat the sixth-ranked team in the nation. Sadly, even that may not be enough at this point.
