We’ve got yet another black-stripe alert on the banks of the Olentangy. Earlier Monday, the Ohio State footall Twitter account shared video of freshman wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba shedding his black stripe. Later in the day, it was linebacker/safety Kourt Williams’ turn.
Williams is the first defender to lose his stripe so far and makes three total players that have had the honor. Late last week, Oklahoma running back graduate transfer Trey Sermon was the first to receive the honor.
You can generally get a pretty good feel of the young guys that are making plays and a big impression early on by the timong of the black stripe removals. It’s clear the two freshmen and Sermon are making moves in preseason camp, we’ll just have to see if it translates onto the field in October and beyond.

We’ll keep an eye on other black stripe alerts as we step through the next month on the way to the start of the season.
